Golden Gate National Recreation Area, California
Even when you are smack dab in the middle of what is supposed to be the grandiose prize, sometimes it’s a great idea to step back and look at your total surroundings to appreciate the grandeur of all around you. For example, one of our most amazing trips, was a surprise stop at the Golden Gate Bridge in San Fransisco. During our amazing weekend, we parked not far from the humongouse red structure and marveld in awe and it’s sheer size. We stopped nearby at the National Recreation Area

The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate, the one-mile-wide strait connecting San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean.
The Golden Gate National Recreation Area is a U.S. National Recreation Area protecting 82,116 acres of ecologically and historically significant landscapes surrounding the San Francisco Bay Area. Much of the park is land formerly used by the United States Army.
Joseph B. Strauss led the way as Chief Engineer of the Golden Gate Bridge. He was assisted by a talented team of professionals that created the final design of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. It was initially designed by engineer Joseph Strauss in 1917. The bridge was named for the Golden Gate strait, the channel that it spans.
Along the way we were able to marvel over the museuem facts and design history, we were able to get our hike on by traveling upwards through trails and picnic areas before reaching the iconic bridge. It was here that we perhaps had the most fun, laughing, climgming and cheering each other on while gazing at the gorgeous structure from a unique perspective, where we could also view the beauty of the bay, the cities, and the massive ocean. Seeing the magnificent sights of The bridge in the center view of the city, Alcatraz, rolling hills of both Saucilito and San Fransisco were breathtaking.
Then after climbing up to that bad boy and then having the courage to walk across and peer over what seemed like the top of the world, truly meant much more than just sight seeing. It was taking a look down, to gaze upon where we had just made such memorable lasting memories just minutes before on the trails leading up to the main event, that made it so apparent, that there is so much more to travel than just hitting one particular destination or instagram photo op point. It’s soaking in every single piece of land where you are, understanding and relating to the people present and becoming one of a larger whole.
