Enchanted Forest Bedroom!

Where The Wild Things Are themed room!

Inspired by the Enticing woods of Idlewild Michigan, the Forest Reserves of Hawai’i, the rainforest and the Best Book Ever… “Where The Wild Things Are”

In Hawai’i, we have the most beautiful Banyon trees. They captivate and sway you into a sense of awe. The way they stretch out and spread like they have a history of secrets just waiting to be unfolded. In Idlewild, Mi we have Beautiful and bold birch, Jack Pine, and sugar male trees that tell a tale all their own.

Each type of tree holds an inviting world of possibilities… From climbing to, bearing wood for warmth and providing captivating visual landscapes, these trees are wondrous and when among them make you feel youthful and energized. I remember climbing the trees in the woods of Idlewild and making cleanings in the forest for a magical house and escape when I was a young girl, and now I see the same love and fascination with trees in my boys.

The look of sheer excitement and determination one has when touching a tree and truly seeing its intricacies for the first time is an experience like no other. I believe it’s a deep connection that once you have experienced it, you know you are born of the woods yourself and truly become connected with nature around you. It gets addictive and eye-opening and once you begin to notice something small about nature, you want to get lost in it and keep looking for more.

I believe that is one reason I love taking hikes and walks whenever I can, wherever  I can.

So in recreating this childlike sense of peace and wonderment, Colin recreated created an epic enchanted forest theme for Kingston’s bedroom. He built the amazing bed from scratch, selecting and sawing the wood and painting as well. (Don’t think the green & white colors from his alma mater Michigan State, are lost on me) I guess the Wolverine in me will have to let this slide, since he did build the bed…

This is just another way we have incorporated our love of the outdoors, travel, and adventure into our everyday lives. You can also pick a zen garden or favorite vacation spot and recreate that moment in time or feeling right in a location in your own home! Kingston recreated the theme from my favorite book “Where The Wild Things Are” for his room. Take a peek, and create your own magical land in your home!

Happy Holiday Rising

Get Creative With Your Workspace!

Work in a space that excites you.

Here at Holiday Rising, we spend a lot of time throughout the year on the road. Because of that, we have become very familiar with libraries and quiet places to study and work. However, there are times when you just have to make do. So having a nicely portable workstation is essential. I love to travel with an all-encompassing work bag. This allows us to carry all of our work essentials, like a computer, hand sanitizer, mousepad, workstation blanket/desk, & water bottle.

Having everything handy in one convenient and stylish bag helps encourage us to work spare of the moment and often. We can pull out our work bag at the park, in a coffee shop, or at the pool.

Now Get To Work…

It’s perfect getting out of the mindset of having to be enclosed staring at the wall.

Even at home we create little personal getaways that make our office space more inviting. Here are a few cool tips for decorating your personal office work zone.

1. Designate Your Space

If you have the ability and room to designate an entire room for your workspace, do so. But if you don’t have a room for a home office, still create a private space with dividers that are meant only for working. While you can use actual room dividers to mark your space, you can also use furniture, plants, and another household decor to denote boundaries.

2. Make it Functional

A functional space is a more comfortable space. Be sure to have a proper desk and chair, and space to keep any necessary work materials. Have all necessary office supplies stocked up so that you can spend your time being productive and not searching for a pen.

3. Maximize Light

If possible, when selecting your designated workspace in your home, pick a spot that has plenty of natural light. Placing your desk near a window can help you stay alert and focused, and you won’t mind spending your time working when you have a view to enjoy.

4. Organize It

If you are surrounded by clutter, it will be difficult to stay productive in your home office. Be sure you have a place for everything, and everything has a place. Invest in trays for your desk, filing cabinets, or other storage solutions to ensure that your desk doesn’t become a catch-all for paperwork.

5. Give It Some Style

Just as your home workspace should be comfortable and well organized, it should also include a little of your personal style. Decorate your desk with family photos, decorative organization, and storage solutions, and greenery to freshen the air. And don’t forget to add little pops of color to liven it up, as well.

Pocket Closet Bunk Beds

Here is a great idea for grabbing additional space and adding a ton of creativity and fun!!

We converted this bed room with a traditional closet into a home theatre, but we did not want to lose the ability to have kids sleep in the room if we needed extra space. Sooooo, we turned the closet into bunk beds, and added a cool rock climbing wall so the kids could have a fun way of getting to the top bunk.

It worked out perfectly, and the kids love it.
