Time For A Good Read

Grab your cashmere throw, a cup of frothy hot chocolate, and let’s dive in…

Finally…Some Me Time!

The leaves are falling, the air is crisp, and winter is right around the corner. It’s time to grab your favorite plush throw and head to your cozy little reading nook.

Escaping the world with a book is a great way to unwind and head into a fantasy journey of epic proportions without leaving the confines of your home. It allows you to detach from the hustle and bustle of the daily grind, without zoning out in front of the tv.

Thankfully my love of reading was inherited from my Grandfather. As a child spending time with my grandparents and cousin while traveling the country in an RV was the perfect way to develop my lifetime love of the written word. One of our favorite activities, besides fishing and playing cards, was heading to the library. We would each gravitate toward our favorite sections and spend an hour browsing our favorite authors, then gleefully head out with the anticipation of tearing into the delightful reads. At the time I think I was into Sweet Valley High, Encyclopedia Brown, and Ann Rice novels. Later I enjoyed watching my Mom escape with a book and found my love of Nora Roberts Trilogies and Toni Morrison.

As a parent now, I have passed down the love of libraries to my kids, as we make the trip to the library an exciting event that is looked forward to.

We place books of interest on hold and are giddy when they are ready and we can check them out and dig in. There is still something very special about actually thumbing through the library stall and smelling the pages of actual books that is nostalgic and unique.

Reading should and could be looked at by all as a fun alternative to mind-numbing video games…Don’t get me wrong, my kids are gamers too, and I very much enjoy Oculus Quest and Ms. Pac Man. But there is nothing like getting lost in a good page-turner.

I enjoy reading everything from Travel & Leisure Magazine, (of which we look forward to our collaboration) to best sellers by Pearl Cleage. Reading informative books has become a joy, such as a book “Leadership” by Taylor Wilson-Thompson.

It’s an excellent book for parents and children alike that gives insight and steps to encouraging leadership in our youth.

Also, a special shout out to truly good page-turner thrillers like Warning Signs by Terrence Loftus, which never disappoint!

There are so many wonderful ways to unwind and enter a new world, so curl up and enjoy a fine read this fall.

Happy Holiday Rising.
