A Visit To The Green Isle
We here at Holiday Rising understand the meaning of tourist trap. There have definitely been a few things along the way that afterwards, we felt like really weren’t worth it. It happens.
That being said, sometimes tourist traps can be worth it. Sometimes you can over think things, and try to “Be like the locals,” but you wind up missing some of those experiences that truly impress what the culture is, and miss out on a fun experience. There is a reason they are tourist traps in the first place, right?
We always try to get a good mix of local knowledge, and tourist traps into each of our trips so that we can see both sides, and make a decision for ourselves.
When you’re in Dublin – yes, stop by The Temple Bar, stop by The Brazen Head – have a drink or 3, enjoy some conversation while you’re there, take a selfie….you know the usual tourist stuff. Do it because afterwards you can say you did it. Pick up a shirt for the folks back home, maybe a mug. Yes, they are both touristy, yes, they are STILL WORTH IT.
While you’re at it and feeling touristy, stop by the Guinness Storehouse, and pour your own pint of the dark stuff. Seriously, when are you going to be in Dublin again….take it all in while you’re there. Enjoy it…revel in it even, just make sure you do it.
After you have gotten your fair share of awkward looks out of the way, and are looking for something a little bit different, try the Traditional Irish Musical Pub Crawl. Seriously, this is one of our most recommended things to do in Dublin while your there. We don’t think this qualifies as a tourist trap per se, just a great way to spend an evening.
Learn about the traditional instruments of yore, spend some time elbow to elbow while downing a pint or two, and relax listening to music and stories of Irish Music. Honestly, this was probably the greatest thing we did in Dublin….we hope you enjoy!!
Slainte!!
